We’re almost to the end of November, the year is simply speeding by. November is the month of Independence here in Barbados so it mean that our Christmas celebrations are delayed somewhat until 1st December when we can go full out in celebration mode. For me personally, November is hectic at work and it becomes crucial that I really pay attention to time management in these last two months as December has little downtime until after Christmas as I go from a busy work schedule to lots of Christmas preparations.
I notice it in November to December especially as it’s a longer time frame but there are often other times during the year with busy periods. R&R (Rest & Recovery) has therefore become a necessity for me in order to maintain balance in my life. Going back to Genesis in the very beginning, God created the world in 6 days and rested on 7th. If the God of the entire universe found it important to rest, then I think it’s important for us to carve out time in our busy schedules to rest and recharge.
Also, there are some areas in our lives that God chooses to work on or certain things He reveals when we come to a place of rest before Him. We make our priority being before Him instead of doing. Both are needed of course, however, there is a time for each and we must work towards cultivating them at the right time.
I love doing and I have lots of ideas and projects floating around in my head to which I try to devote time and God has been teaching me the importance of taking time to rest which may be sleeping/napping but often it’s taking time away from activities and simply spending time with Him during the day. Or it may be turning down an invitation to ensure that I do not overextend myself and suffer negative consequences with regards to my health.
I’ve started to incorporate practices into my routine, however, I’m challenged to grow in this area.
