I had a friend travel recently and she mentioned that where she was going, she probably would not have any internet access on the first day so she could message to let me know that she’d arrived safely. However, she promised to message me as soon as she could to update me. We also put a backup plan in place where I would call the friend she was going to visit who would be able to give me an update. Day 2 arrived and I had not received any response from my friend. I called her friend multiple times as well and still nothing. I checked in with my friend’s family to see if they had heard from her but the day drew to an end and I was still awaiting a response.
Day 3 dawned…
I was really trying to keep calm and not freak out but on day 3, that was it! I was starting to worry and God stopped me in my tracks with this rhetorical question:
Do you love your friend more than I do?
He unpacked this little nugget for me- He loves her more than I ever could, He knows exactly where she is and He is able to keep her safe. I needed to trust God to do what only He can do. When I did exactly that, I felt His peace about the entire situation. I also had a new perspective on Philippians 4:6-7.
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4: 6-7 (NIV)
Through prayer we can hand over everything we are worried about to God and free ourselves from this weight, therefore enabling us to experience God’s peace.
PS. Later on day 3, I heard from my friend and she was fine 🙂
